Marriage registration centers in the city were kept busy yesterday when 3,457 couples tied the knot, according to the Hangzhou Civil Affairs Bureau.
The couples believe the coincidence of Valentine's Day and the Lantern Festival will bring double happiness to their marriage.
A registration center in Xiacheng Disctrict said the earliest couple arrived at 5am. The center opened its door at 6am to allow the couples to enter instead of waiting in the cold.
The registration started at 7:30am, earlier than its normal working time.
This year, Valentine's Day clashed with the Lantern Festival and created a dilemma for lovers who will have to choose between a romantic candlelit dinner with their partner and a meal with family members.
